Apple App Store: 85.000 Apps and 2 Billion Downloads

Apple published new stats concerning the App Store (press release). The numbers are impressive: two billion apps have been downloaded in just over a year (half a billion this quarter alone), 85.000 applications from 20 categories can be downloaded by 50 million iPhone and iPod touch users. So far 125,000 developers joined Apple’s iPhone Developer Program.

With the iPhone coming to China this year, the number of downloaded apps will top 3 billion soon.

And Android? There is still lots of work to do, but with some improvement of the Android Market and more and more Android-based handsets being released, there might be a chance to catch up.
